Welcome to Changing Times Diaper Company
April 21, 2016
Here it is again the middle of the month and I am just getting about to writing our monthly newsletter. I sometimes wonder where the times goes but it does not take long to remember the answer - work. My job in the construction industry continues to takes it toll not only on my demeanor and body, but also the time necessary to run our small home based business.
A few weeks ago I nearly called it quits when it comes to driving a concrete truck. I am tired of the long hours, constantly being wet and dirty (nothing to do with diapers - hah hah), and the rush to get concrete to our customers. Most days you are assigned a new delivery just as you enter the yard from your previous load. Time is needed between loads and most often you are being rushed and often already late for the customers delivery time.
This day was particularly hectic and I was ready to quit. I informed dispatch not to assign me another load as I was coming down to corporate headquarter to discuss my future with the company. We are in the midst of hiring new drivers so they definitely do not want to lose qualified drivers at this time. I have been driving concrete trucks for 20 years. I met with the company president who listened to my concerns and we came to a mutual agreement.
I am now the last driver in everyday and one of the first ones off as work winds down and drivers can be sent home. This is working out great as I now have more time to devote to taking CTDC to the next step. We took one giant leap opening a small office/retail store here in town. We do not rely on walk-in customers at this time due to my constantly changing work schedule. However, having all our products in one place makes it easier to fulfill orders and meet with individuals who want to ship in private. We have had two walk-in customers so far and both were a pleasure to meet and do business with. It would be fantastic to make CTDC a full-time retail business in the near future. This option is currently being considered.
I would like to this time to thank all our wonderful customers for their continued support of CTDC. New customers are placing orders and this can directly be attributed to positive comments at various sites dealing with incontinence and the AB/DL community. No matter the individuals reason for wearing cloth diapers and waterproof pants, we thank you for spreading the word about our quality products and affordable pricing. I know cloth diapers can be expensive up front but in the long run will save money in comparison to disposable diapers.
Our diaper twill pre-folds continue to be our best selling products month-after-month. Sales have increased to the point where medium pre-folds are currently sold-out. This is the most popular size. A new order was placed and should be ready for shipping any day. I contacted the manufacturer this morning asking for an update to my order and hope to have new pre-folds, contour style and inserts within the next few weeks. I'll send out a quick note when the new order arrives.
Many of our InControl (Gary Mfg.) vinyl pants are also in short supply and a new order will be placed this week. I am accepting special orders for the Gary Mfg. vinyl pants. The only thing I ask is not to request a change to the amount of elastic at the waist and/or legs or anything out of the ordinary. This makes it hard to sell the pants to other individuals. There is no minimum required on your part as I order at least twelve pants to get a better price. Any extra pants are placed in our new "Special Order" link. We currently have snap-on blue carousel pants in sizes large and xx-large under this link. We are adding new Gary Mfg. pants as we now have the space required for a larger inventory of reusable diapering products.
The KINS polyurethane laminate (PUL) pants have been a welcomed addition ever since Bumkins moved production of their cloth diapering products to China and could no longer manufacturer the adult sizes for us. The KINS pants are very popular and two new prints are now available - Pirates and Skull & Crossbones. The prints are very cute and matching Velcro bibs are available.
Another new KINS PUL pant now available is the dinosaur print in the lowrider style. This pant is great for use over disposables or smaller cloth diapers. The pant is approximately 2" lower in the waist and snugger through the hips and crotch. We have a new sizing chart for the "Lowrider" pant. Please be sure to use the correct link when ordering the dinosaur lowrider pant as we offer the same print in the regular full cut pant.
The KINS PUL pants are made with the Dritz Babyville material. It's been around for a few years but no longer available from my wholesaler. Jenny at KINS is also having a difficulty obtaining the material. There is a possibility the KINS pants/bibs could come to an early end just as the Bumkins waterproof polyester pants did several years ago. The KINS PUL pants currently in stock could be the last pants manufactured for our business using the Babyville PUL. I can not emphasis this enough. Please do not wait too long to order our KINS PUL pants/bibs as once they are gone there will likely be no more unless I can find another wholesaler for this quality material.
We are fortunate that another manufacturer of adult pants stepped in and we now offer two new styles of print PUL pants. The pull-on style is based upon the Gary Mfg. comfort pant and offered in three cute prints. The fit is identical to the Gary pant and the elastic at the waist and legs is enclosed within the PUL material. Gary Mfg. offers pants made with PUL but only in solid colors. We also offer a new snap-on PUL pant.
Our new snap-on PUL pants are made by the same company and offered in three prints. The pants are someone like the KINS Lowrider pants as they are more snug at the hips and great for use over disposable diapers or smaller cloth diapers. This is a great pant as the snap-on style increases air flow which is better for your skin.
Matching adult bibs are available with the new pull-on and snap-on PUL pants. The prints are alien monsters, blue plaid, elephants and planes & superman. The bibs have the same measurements as the KINS PUL bibs and come with a crumb pockets and Velcro at the neck for ease of placing around ones neck.
Snappi fasteners. It looks as though the size 2 toddler Snappi fasteners are no longer being offered. There's been talk over the last few years to discontinue this size due to slow sales. WHAT? Not in the adult market. There is a new supplier for the Snappi fasteners and only come in one size. I have not ordered any from the new supplier so comparisons can be made but my gut feeling is the new style is smaller and more for use on infant and toddler diapers. The good new is I have a large selection of Size 2 Toddler Snappi's available at this time.
Our shipping calculator continues to create issues for some orders. Many orders are right on the money, some are off a little while others you would think the products were being sent to the Mars. This might be feasible one day but not in my lifetime. The problem is in the USPS program as our product weights are correct. For the most part the cost is correct but at the same time allows the products to be sent priority mail and not parcel post as requested. This could also have something to do with the several priority mail shipping option I have available. There is priority mail, flat rates and regional rates. I use the fastest shipping method available and at the same time, the most cost effective based upon the amount paid in your order. It may be hard to believe but some priority mail shipping options are less expensive than parcel post. Try to figure this one out but then again we are talking about a federal program operating in the red. Please feel free to contact me if there is ever a questions about the shipping cost of your order.
Well,it's getting late and once again, where did the day go? Let's see. It started out by going to the medical laboratory and having blood drawn for my up coming Doctor's appointment, dying more 7 mil snap-on vinyl pants which will be added to our site tomorrow, starting this newsletter, having an electrician come in and fix several issues, packing orders, going to the post office to drop off the packages, stopping by a carpet company as we are in need of new carpeting throughout the house and dinner at Dickie's BBQ. It's time for a shower and rest up as it's back to work tomorrow. I am hoping for a short days but one never knows until you see the delivery schedule.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any question or concern about our products or service. Our new cell phone allows me to answer emails and calls throughout the day (as long as I am not driving). Our cell number is 530-635-7456.
