Welcome to Changing Times Diaper Company
December 16, 2014
Once again, many of us are wondering where the year went. Hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner and the end of 2014 is near. There we many ups and downs this year not only with employment but with the business too.
Early in 2014 I found it necessary to leave an employer whom I worked with for several years. A family owner business proved to be the right career decision and the past several months have kept me extremely busy. Long days seem to be the normal routine with the new company. A longer commute is now necessary as the local concrete plant I worked from is closed for the winter. I now drive an hour one way in order to work. The commute is not a problem but results in longer days. Thankfully this will only be until the arrival of spring.
The business took a hit late in the year when an upgrade to the US Postal Services shipping calculator torpedoed our site. The new calculator would not intergrade with our older version of our ecommerce templates shopping cart. Never did I believe it would take over a month to get back online. This was a very frustrating time not only for you but me too. I wondered when the nightmare would end. I am pleased to be back online but have several small issues to work on with the new site. One is to upload large photos of each products. The shut-down of our site could not come at a worse time as the new Birdseye diapers and diaper twill inserts had just arrived from the manufacturer.
It seemed to take forever to get the new Birdseye flat diapers and inserts in stock. I am pleased with the response to both new products.
The Birdseye flat diapers are a favorite style with many individuals. This was the style I wore for many years. Our new flat diapers are available in sizes 36x36 and 44x44 inches. Both sizes are also available in either 2 or 4 ply thickness. At this time the 4 ply is the more popular style. My recommendation is to also purchase a few 2 ply diapers to increase the absorbency of the flat diaper. The 2 ply can easily be folded into thirds and placed between to 4 ply diapers. The flat diapers are very versatile when it comes to layering and a combination of 2 and 4 plies should result in a comfortable and absorbent diaper.
Our new diaper twill inserts are becoming very popular. The inserts are made with the same material used to make our pre-fold and contour diapers. They are available in sizes small, medium, large and x-large. Large and x-large are the more popular style at this time. The insert is an inexpensive way to increase the absorbency of all our cloth diapers..
Our waterproof pants from Gary Mfg. and KINS continue to be very popular products. Several styles in certain sizes are limited at this time. A new order for Gary pants will be placed after the first of the year as they are closing down for the holidays next week. I will be looking at past sales to see which Gary pants might be discontinued and replaced with more popular styles. The softwear matte pant comes to mind as a pant with is not a big seller. This pant could be replaced with the pink carousel pant.
I have been in contact with Jenny Giles about new PUL pants and bibs. I have requested the dinosaur print and solid white pants at this time. I am hopeful this order will arrive near the end of January 2015. Additional PUL pants and bibs will be ordered over the next several months.
Unfortunately the manufacturer of the PUL discontinued the cowboy print. This was our most popular print. I was able to purchase three bolts of the fabric and finally sent the material to KINS. Looking at the last order of cowboy pull-on pants and bibs also around the end of January 2015.
A new order of our popular taffeta pants arrived last month and available in all sizes. This is a very lightweight and waterproof material which makes for great protection over cloth diapers or disposable briefs. This last order was made with the taffeta material on the outside and the waterproof coating on the inside. The taffeta is a great pant no matter which material is on the outside.
I am still awaiting the arrival of our new vinyl pants from Edley/Lang. One thing I have learned is to be patient as this is sometimes a slow process. I am hopeful they will soon arrive as many are asking when they will be available. The pants were ordered in matte and shiny styles and all sizes.
I am always exploring new products to add to our line of quality reusable cloth diapers and waterproof pants. I have a lead on adult training pants which will be great for those requiring minimum protection during the day. The outer layer is polyurethane laminate (PUL) with three inner layers of absorbent material. I am looking at offering a couple of prints along with the standard solid colors. More to come as I investigate this new product.
CTDC continues to support charities as a small portion of every sales goes to help individuals in need. We are happy to support the Wounded Warrior Project and Millers Childrens Hospital in Long Beach, California. Both are great organizations. Wounded Warriors supports US servicemen dealing with many issues as a result of combat operations. Millers Childrens Hospital supports children dealing with life threatening illnesses. My nephew was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer before the age of one. He is now a healthy and happy teen and would not be here without the fantastic and professional Doctors and Nurses at Millers Childrens Hospital.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers who throughout the years made CTDC a success. There have been many bumps along the way. Operating a small home base business can be stressful at times as keeping up with the competition can be fierce as we try to outdo each other. My advantage is a low overhead with allows me to keep our prices low. I am looking forward to 2015 as we explore ways to expand our line of quality made reusable incontinence products.
