Welcome to Changing Times Diaper Company
Pull-on vinyl pants can be very uncomfortable during the hot temperatures so the use of snap-on vinyl or pull-on taffeta or polyurethane laminate (PUL) pants provide for increased air circulation, comfort and better skin protection. CTDC is proud to offer waterproof pants made with lightweight taffeta and, solid colored and cute print PUL pants. Our lightweight white taffeta pants provide the ultimate in protection when wearing cloth diapers. They are also useful when added protection is needed over disposable briefs. The manufacturer actually calls the material baby pant taffeta. This material is very similar to pants once offered by a few makers of baby pants. Our taffeta pants have the ability to breathe while keeping clothing and bedding dry. Our recent order of taffeta pants were made with the waterproof coating on the outside. Jenny at KINS felt this made for a better looking pant and I could not agree more. If you are looking for a lightweight waterproof pant to wear during the summer, our taffeta pants are a great choice. We also proud to be the only company to offer pants made with pastel colored and print PUL material.
Sales of our PUL pants have increased significantly during the past three months. Word continues to spread about this quality pant made by a leading manufacturer of infant and adult cloth diapering products. Our youth and adult pants are made with Babyville PUL. This material is becoming more popular with Work At Home Moms (WAHM) as it is readily available from local fabric stores and many online sources. In addition, some of the prints are very cute.
PUL is a great material as it has the ability to breathe. This cannot be said for pull-on vinyl pants. PUL is very durable as it was designed for use in hospitals. As with our taffeta pants, this is a perfect choice for use over cloth diapers or when additional protection is needed over disposable briefs. A new order of PUL pants will soon be in the making. I have noted the cowboy print is no longer available from my source. Unfortunately, the cowboy pull-on and snap-on pants and bibs currently in stock will be discontinued when sold-out. This print will be replaced with one of two pirate patterns on the next order. Several other colors and prints are also in short supply at this time. I had thoughts of discontinuing our PUL pants due to the logistics involved in bringing them to market but have decided to continue to offer them as they are becoming more popular every month.
A new order of InControl (Gary Mfg.) vinyl pants was placed this week. It takes about fifteen business days for a new order to arrive. I have been informed by Gary Mfg. that the white playtime print is being discontinued. I will soon have a good supply of this cute print in sizes small to 3x-large along with medium size bibs. It is just a matter of time before the next email arrives from Gary Mfg. informing me this print is no longer available for purchase. Unfortunately, like the cowboy PUL print, the playtime print will be discontinued when sold-out.
Time has not allowed the opportunity to dye the 7mm original and comfort pants. This material is only available in white from Gary Mfg. The response to our colored 7mm pants has been positive. Hopefully I will be able to get around to dyeing some in yellow and blue this week. Still not too sure about the color pink at this time.
I have been in contact with Peggy Lu Faye at Lifestyles Emporium and hope to a have a new supply of Lang vinyl pants in the near future. Sizes small to xx-large in matte and shiny styles will be offered as in the past. Size xxx-large is possible if there is a need. Peggy Lu has decided to direct her efforts in the manufacturing of the Edley/Lang products and leave the sales to distributors. I do not know of any other sources at this time offering the Edley/Lang products.
A trip to Lifestyles Emporium a couple months ago allowed me to purchase nearly every Lang vinyl pant in stock. These pants quickly sold to a point where there are only about five small and one xx-large matte and six xx-large shiny pants in stock at this time. The Lang pants have been one of my favorites since I discovered them back in the early 80’s. Changes to the sizing and vinyl have occurred since Peggy Lu purchase the Eldey/Lang line of products. Changes to the patterns have significantly improved. The pants are now have a fuller cut and higher waist. This allows for a better fit over thick cloth diapers. The same elastic is used at the waist and legs. Unfortunately, the vinyl has changed over the years. This is through no fault of Peggy Lu. The reason for the change is because one chemical in the original vinyl formula is not longer allowed in the United States. This one particular chemical was used to keep the vinyl soft but was declared a poisonous material by the federal government. Look for a new order of Lang vinyl pants in the near future.
Our diaper twill pre-folds and contour diapers continue to be our best selling products. Many individuals who have worn diapers made with gauze, flannel or birdseye are surprised by the comfort and absorption of our diapers made with cotton twill. I could not agree more as I grew up wearing the 21” x 40” gauze diapers made by Curity and later by Sears, Penney’s and Gerber. When I could not longer wear the infant diapers, I was forced to switch to diapers made with flannel. How uncomfortable! It was only a few years ago I came upon the diaper twill pre-folds and have been a fan ever since. I still have several custom made diapers using the 21” x 40” but these are quickly wearing out. Soon, the only cloth diapers I will use will be made with diaper twill.
A new orders of cloth diapers was placed with our manufacturer. I have had several requests for new styles. New to our line will be a flat style made with birdseye and measuring 36” x 36” and 44” x 44”. The diaper will be available in 2 and 4 ply thicknesses. The outer edges are to be sewn with light blue thread. More to come on this new diaper as word is received from the manufacturer.
Also included in the new order will be cloth inserts which can be used with our pre-fold and contour diapers. These are the same inserts which come with our contour diapers and several request were received for sale of just the inserts.
Cloth diaper fasteners have evolved over the years. Diaper pins were the norm when I was growing up but today there are fasteners such as the Boingo’s and Snappi’s. One thing to keep in mind when using the latter two is they were designed for infants and toddlers. Many adult have found them useful to secure their diapers. This is especially true when used with youth, small and medium cloth diapers. However, using them with large and x-large diapers can push them to their limit and could result in failure of the plastic teeth or rubber material. When this happens, the manufacturer cannot be held responsible and any warranty against failure of the product voided. If in doubt about the use of Boingo or Snappi fasteners, the good ole Dritz baby or blanket pins are always a popular choice.
I have found the Dritz baby pins can be easily used with our youth, small and medium pre-folds and small, medium and large contour diapers. The Dritz pins are available in the standard blue, pink, white and yellow colors. Bright colored baby pins are available if you are looking for a little more pizzazz.
As always, I thank everyone for their continued support of our small home based business. Hard to believe we are close to celebrating seven years of offering quality products at affordable prices. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about our products or service. I try to respond to all emails but sometimes get behind in my correspondence due to my primary job in the construction industry, fulfilling orders, work around the house and having personal time with my wife and now, seven cats.
